On Friday 23 October, the SAVEM Coordinator attended the Disaster Recovery NGO Community of Practice meeting, held by the Security, Emergency and Recovery Management (SERM) team within the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Approximately three dozen groups heard from the Bureau of Meteorology and the Emergency Relief Functional Support Group before a networking morning tea. The following session comprised member updates on Recovery preparedness, capacity and capability. This was an excellent opportunity to connect and reconnect with like-minded groups, and meet people from new groups who have recently joined the community. The knowledge, commitment and experience in the room was impressive. SAVEM is now a well known and respected member of the NGO community. Our unique modus operandi in response, relief and recovery and our One Health One Welfare outlook means we can contribute meaningfully in the Recovery space with compassion and kindness to help affected communities and their animals.
