SAVEM Coordinator presents

In June 2026, RSPCA NSW hosted the second Animals in Emergencies conference at their Sydney Education Centre. The SAVEM Coordinator was invited to present, and gave the penultimate presentation prior to the last panel session of the day. The conference was a resounding success, with an even larger event planned for 2027. Somewhat surprisingly, it seems harder to find mainstream Emergency Management conferences willing to accept presentations about animals in emergencies, than in the 2010’s when the Managing Animals in Disasters project was at its peak, funded by the then Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre. Surprisingly, because awareness of managing animals in emergencies well is gaining traction, and “life” no longer necessarily means life on two legs.
Many thanks to RSPCA NSW, especially to Anne Keyvar, for exceptional work organising and hosting the conference.
