First training for 2021 – Air Shelter Team

Happy New Training Year! The first SAVEM training event for 2021 was held successfully on 10 January – the Air Shelter Team. Volunteers new to the team comprised 50% of participants, and were “buddied up” with an experienced mentor. Team Leader Deb directed two unpack/inflate-deflate/pack cycles over three hours, with enthusiastic and engaged volunteers “learning the ropes” rapidly. The Hackett Foundation Air Shelter hadn’t been out of its packs and trailer since February 2020 due to COVID restrictions, but the equipment performed flawlessly. Only a few very small, minor blemishes remained after the rigours of the 2019/2020 deployment. Every time we train with the Air Shelter we move closer to perfecting our technique. Thanks to a grant from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia SAVEM’s second Air Shelter module is on the production line at Covertex New Zealand. Thanks too to everyone who participated today.
