SAVEM has been busy training during peacetime, 2026. In July and August we offered SAVEM veterinarians and veterinary nurses the opportunity to learn from master wildlife veterinarian, Dr Ian Hough. We ran four one-hour webinars covering Decision Making; Burns, Drugs and Triage and a general Q&A. This year we extended the invitation to veterinarians and veterinary nurses from RSPCA SA, and were glad to welcome several RSPCA personnel to the sessions. Our sincere thanks to Dr Ian for generously sharing his practical skill and expertise.
Radio Communications followed in September with long-time SAVEM supporter and trainer, Mark Thomason. Mark is Captain of his local CFS Brigade, and has many years experience as a firefighter and Level 3 Incident Controller. His postgraduate research examined human factors of incident management teams during large emergencies. Mark is a trainer with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, and his experience is invaluable evaluating exercises. SAVEM sincerely thanks Mark for his enthusiastic contribution to our capacity and capability.
Feedback was positive, and session recordings are available for everyone who registered.
