SAVEM has not been Activated by PIRSA for the Yorketown fire. On Thursday 21 November the SAVEM Coordinator rang YP Vets as a professional courtesy and to offer support, left a message on Dr Natalie’s phone and spoke to a staff member at the Kadina practice – making sure they knew SAVEM was available to help if needed, and that they only had to ask. The local vets with two rapidly deployed PIRSA vets assessed and attended to animals on Thursday – including hundreds of burned sheep.
An unknown number of pets perished when the wind changed and the fire broke containment lines in the early hours of Thursday morning. Very few survived with only treatable injuries. It is heartbreaking to see people losing homes, livelihoods, animals and the results of generations of hard work. As one farmer said on ABC TV News, I loved my sheep and they’re all gone. SAVEM sends sincere sympathy to everyone affected by this fire. Any further news will be posted on this page.
