Peacetime is Training Time

The arrival of winter brings a welcome end to bushfire season. SAVEM trains to all hazards, but bushfire is the most common emergency event requiring a SAVEM activation. However, peacetime is no time to relax – the SAVEM Training Team works hard to bring relevant training to volunteers with the necessary prerequisites throughout the off-fire season months. SAVEM training resumed in April, after the Coles fire response and debrief. Level 1 2022 was held in early April, and Exercise InTent in May. SAVEM vets and nurses attended Wildlife Emergency Response Skills training, Part 1, with Dr Ian Hough in March, with Part 2 scheduled for mid-June. Vehicle Orientation training will be held on 3 July, followed by Radio Comms in August. All newly registered SAVEM volunteers must complete the online training modules and SAVEM Level 1 before being eligible for other training. Please remember to check the training calendar on the website for dates and eligibility criteria.
