Exercise Respond 2021 on 12 September was a great success. Despite very cold conditions with rain, hail and wind, four teams of enthusiastic volunteers, plus Logistics and the Training Team practised Activation to a hypothetical fire in Belair National Park.
Volunteers received Standby and Activation notification by email during the 48 hours prior to the Exercise, advised their availability and reviewed and finalised their prepared kits. On the morning of the Exercise, teams attended briefing by the SAVEM Coordinator and the Exercise Director, organised their team structures, carried out their vehicle and equipment checks, and navigated to Staging. In a round-robin series of scenarios, teams undertook surveillance of their sectors, responded to calls from animal owners and practised their radio communications skills learnt at training in August.
Delicious warm Turkish rolls from the nearby Sheoak Café were very welcome at lunchtime. Well done to all participants – your positive “can-do” attitude overcame the challenges of very bad weather!
Next event is our pre-season Operational Update – see the Training calendar for details.
