Two teams of SAVEM volunteers, plus trainers and facilitators, attended Exercise Respond 2019 at Gumeracha CFS Group Base, and Bushland Park, Lobethal, on Sunday November 3. The day began with a session on developing our “To Go” kits, which we’d all brought along to share ideas about content and packing. After a SMEAC briefing, teams were allocated and vehicles checked. Teams navigated to the “fireground” site at Bushland Park, where teams were tasked with locating soft-toy manequins representing injured domestic animals and wildlife, and then triaging and managing each animal’s case description. Following the in-field part of the Exercise, debriefing took place back at Gumeracha Group Base. SAVEM sincerely thanks the SA Country Fire Service for their willing and enthusiastic support of the day. Thanks also to the Wireless Institute Civil Emergency Network (WICEN) for use of their UHF portable radios. Review of the event by the SAVEM Training Team will take place before the next Exercise in 2020. Well done team!
