Cudlee Creek Fire, South Australia, Day 4

Day 4 was a gruelling day, but with a number of good outcomes. One was “Charlie” the koala – named after Charlie the cherry-picker driver (from Taking Care Of Trees) who elevated Belinda and Rachel to the treetops. Charlie’s mum had perished, and Charlie insisted on being just out of reach. We gently flagged Charlie to the ground and he was caught by Dennis (who took this photo). Charlie has minor medical issues and is in the care of SA Dept of Environment and Water Cleland Wildlife Park’s veterinary hospital. It was almost exclusively a wildlife day today, with koalas, kangaroos and possums needing help. There’ll be more of the same tomorrow, but maybe not another cherry-picker ride.

AND A HUGE THANKYOU to supporters who have donated to SAVEM this week! At the moment we can’t thank you all individually, but your generosity is GREATLY appreciated!
